Gerard Way’s Excellent Communication Skills
I’m sorry. I know I’m going to the special hell for people who post COMPLETELY INANE SHIT on Tumblr. But, holyshitthatsadorable.
My Chemical Romance - The Kids From Yesterday
Over 10 years. This video tells the story of some awkward kids who started a band because of 9/11, struggled with instant fame, substance abuse and depression, and eventually came out the other side in a world full of color (and you know… laser guns).
In a lot of ways, I grew with this band. The Black Parade hit at the same time as my own epic struggle with depression and anxiety. Seeing them find their way out of that black and white world has been a huge inspiration for me.
As Scroobius Pip might say, “My Chemical Romance is just a band”. It’s more than true.
And that’s exactly why they’re so important to me - they’re the first band I ever truly realized was just a few regular guys (albeit with some great talent).
Along with a few other influences, their existence and honesty helped me recognize the validity in my lifelong dream of being a singer, and proved to me that you don’t have to be born some kind of special person to do it. That you don’t have to be cool.
Amusing side note: Some real classic clips in that video, including the time Frank accidentally kicked Gerard in the nuts on stage.
Interview with My Chemical Romance: “It’s Not Someone Else’s Fest. It’s Ours.”
No hint on what will be on the next album, but a charmingly punchy Frank Iero talks a bit about Bamboozle and homecomings.

Gerard Way.
This awkward-celebrities-before-they-got-marketing-departments thing will never get old. Gee, you did it. And if you can do it, I can do it. And they can do it. We can all do whatever we want in this life, or die trying.
Everybody To Safety - Desert Song (My Chemical Romance Cover)
Yee haw, kiddies.
All the cool kids close their eyes when they sing. Swear.
Gerard Way shares some of his favourite comics.
On board and checking the first four out now, but I did end up getting The Biologic Show awhile back and wussed out - I couldn’t handle it. Too gross. I wouldn’t mind hearing a bit more about why it moves him besides how disturbing it is.
Dark Horse - The Umbrella Academy
Um YES, lets do this. I see some things that I either forgot or weren’t in the actual comic - curious what they changed.
Ray Toro of My Chemical Romance
I think I’m going to start a “mundane photos of famous people” Tumblr. I’m still just fascinated by it. Frank just posted this on Facebook with the caption “water cooler romance”.
Ah. Now it’s stuck in my head.
I’m a big believer that all you need to be a writer is a notebook and a pen. I think the whole idea that you can’t say you’re a writer until you’ve had something published isn’t actually true. My philosophy has always been: I’m a writer now, and one day I’ll be a published writer. I also don’t believe that you need any formal training, you just need to live and experience things.
From “The Kids From Yesterday” by My Chemical Romance
This is one of the killer lyrical lines from Danger Days (#imho). I imagine it can be interpreted in a lot of ways - the simplest of which might be that moment when, in a fit of emotion, you realize that the song playing is affecting you, as it moves from white noise to the sound track to your very own real life drama.
For me, it makes me think about my relationship with wanting to make music - and although I know it sounds idiotic, I’m still looking for the metaphor, thinking that when I find it, I might have something to learn from it.
Ok seriously whoever put this together is insanely clever. Animated gif win.
“FULL WEIRD PART” - NICE.
Presumably the song structure of a new My Chemical Romance song, presumably written by someone in or near the band.
Is it totally weird that this is like SONGWRITINGPORN for me?
Verse
Chorus

Transition (“dropout”)
Chorus

Transition 2 (“dropout to full weird part” ahahaha)
Chorus with change
Outro
I always felt like MCR didn’t follow normal song structure, but generally they have. It just FEELS like the song changes a lot because of other techniques they use - usually changing the feel of a few instruments/vocals over a repeated part or starting/ending the song with “change” parts (any part that isn’t the main verse or chorus).
Fascinating. I might be the only one who cares.
Gerard Way
Whoah, new hair. Leave it to this kid to make the “I-tried-to-bleach-it-at-home-but-couldn’t-afford-a-second-box-look” look amazing.
I feel like I’ve heard these words since I was a child.
Over and over and over and over. It’s amazing how we can understand a concept like this, but fail to internalize it for so long. I’m finally truly learning.
Thanks in no small part to this amazing and utterly normal boy.
